But what exactly is die cutting? Die cutting is a quick and easy way of producing individual or mass shapes from paper, foil, cardstock or even chipboard using a machine and die, instead of cutting by hand. The die cutting machine applies the necessary pressure, while the chosen die (such as a Sizzix Bigz, Thinlits or Framelits die) is responsible for cutting the design. So when determining if you can die cut a certain material, it's important to check the compatibility of your die rather than your machine.

Using a Sizzix Thinlits die is a breeze. Simply grab your Sizzix Big Shot Machine (660200) and Standard Cutting Pads (655093) to get started. Place one cutting pad, then your Thinlits die, followed by your chosen material, and complete the "sandwich" with the second cutting pad on top. With one roll through your die cutting machine, your intricate design will be revealed. Note that an Adapter Platform (658992) is required when using Thinlits dies with any of the Sizzix Big Shot machines, which is included if you've already purchased one of these machines.

While Sizzix dies are optimized for use with Sizzix machines, you may be wondering about their compatibility with non-Sizzix machines.
